Happy Anniversary, Prince William & Kate Middleton!

The world's most famous newlyweds are no longer newlyweds.

It's hard to believe that a whole year has passed since Prince William and Kate Middleton became Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at London's Westminster Abbey.

The royal wedding was a spectacle unlike any other, and not simply because William is royalty: It's a celebrity news story that isn't the slightest bit negative!

Nary a harsh word is ever said about the couple, who the whole world is rooting for to succeed (while speculating over Kate's future pregnancy) 24/7/365.

A year after they declared their love for each other in front of an estimated two billion (!) viewers, they're keeping their first wedding anniversary private.

The Duke and Duchess were to spend part of the weekend with friends in London, then return to their home in Anglesey, on the Welsh coast, by Sunday.

So here's to William and Kate! Click to enlarge some of our favorite photos of the royal no-longer-newlyweds on this, their one-year wedding anniversary:

Everything You Need to Know About the Higgs Boson in Under Eight Minutes [Video]

The Higgs Boson is kind of a big deal. If it does exist, it could provide a key to unifying the standard and quantum models of physics. But what is a Higgs Boson, what does it do, and how does it work? With the help of this animated short, UCI physics professor Daniel Whiteson breaks down the basics of this mysterious particle (or is it a field?) in a way even your parents can understand. Karla Vanessa Perez: Pregnant With NINE Kids?

Karla Vanessa Perez, a Mexican woman already nicknamed NuevaMom by TMZ and other celebrity gossip sites, is reportedly pregnant with nine kids! NINE!

That puts Octomom to shame! Or at least beats her by one embryo.

Perez is a month away from giving birth to six girls and three boys. Like Nadya Suleman, fertility treatments led to her record-breaking multiple pregnancy.

OctoMex

This is not Perez. It's Octomom photoshopped in front of a Mexican flag.

Perez confirmed the news to Mexico's Notimex news agency, saying, "It's very early to think of names for the babies ... first I hope that everything goes well."

We hope so too ... during the pregnancy and afterward. In Octomom's case, it has not, judging by the fact that she's now on welfare and may lose her kids.

No word yet if NuevaMom is also unmarried, with six offspring already, financially insolvent to the point where her kids have to poop outside, and/or insane.

UPDATE: She may be a fraud, according to TMZ.

Univision claims it has information that could prove Perez isn't really pregnant at all ... A reporter spoke with a Mexican doctor who performed an ultrasound on NuevaMom and determined her uterus was "empty."

The doctor told a reporter she is unaware of other ultrasounds and is trying to find out who told Karla she was even pregnant in the first place.

Patterned by Nature: it's big, blocky and earth-approved (video)

patterned-by-nature-blocky-low-energy-lcd-glass-installation

Quick quiz: which consumes more power, an "energy-efficient" 55-inch LED TV, or the 90-foot "Patterned by Nature" video installation at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences? It's actually a trick question, because the sculpture does eat less power -- just 75 watts -- but then it only has a fraction of the TV's pixels. Each of its 3600 "dots" is in fact a 6-inch glass pane which can vary its transparency, a decidedly more lo-fi approach than similar tech we've seen before, but no less arresting as a result. As the video shows, it combines an eight channel soundtrack with twenty Mario-like animations on its serpentine skin -- ranging from bacteria to flocking geese -- to bring mother nature to the viewer without sapping her energy.
